LASIK (Laser in-situ Keratomileusis) is used to correct or reduce moderate to high levels of nearsightedness (myopia), astigmatism and farsightedness (hyperopia). The traditional LASIK procedure is relatively simple: a keratome is used to gently create a flap in the cornea. In IntraLASIK, the flap is created by a computer-controlled, precision laser. The flap is lifted and an excimer laser is then used to shape the remaining tissue. The flap is then carefully set back into place, forming an occlusive seal by osmopic pressure. Osmopic pressure holds the flap in place and allows it to heal very quickly, without stitches!

Studies have shown that the LASIK procedure causes the least amount of discomfort when compared to all other types of refractive surgeries. Patients have also reported an almost immediate improvement in their vision following the LASIK procedure. Most patients say they experience little or no discomfort during or after the procedure.

Since 1987, noted cornea specialist Dr William Boothe, William A. Boothe, M.D., has brought the world into focus with more than 80,000 LASIK laser vision correction procedures. Dr William Boothe has personally performed more VISX Custom 3-Dimensional Wavefront Customized laser vision correction procedures than any other surgeon in the world and was named VISX Surgeon of the Year by the manufacturer in 1999.

Dr William Boothe also continues to be the busiest IntraLASIK surgeon in the world, having now performed over 42,000 IntraLASIK procedures. His passion for excellence and his commitment to state-of-the-art technology has made Boothe Eye Care and Laser Center one of the premier vision centers in the country.

LASEK is a relatively new laser vision procedure that combines elements of PRK and LASIK, and may offer some advantages over both. Instead of removing the epithelium (the thin layer of protective skin that covers the cornea) like in PRK, a flap of surface epithelium is loosened with a diluted alcohol solution and moved aside. The surface under the epithelium is then treated with the laser and the epithelial flap is returned to its original position. Using the epithelium flap as a natural protective bandage with LASEK.

  Advantages of LASIK

Some doctors believe that LASIK is a suitable procedure for correcting the most severe refractive errors. They also say that there is generally a faster recovery time after LASIK, LASIK patients can see well enough to drive immediately and have good vision within a week.

CLINICAL RESULTS

The FDA-approved AcrySof ReSTOR is a breakthrough in intraocular lens technology for most people with Cataracts, with or without Presbyopia, that may restore the eyesight of youth. Results from a controlled clinical study of the AcrySof ReSTOR IOL revealed that maximum visual performance is achieved when implanted bilaterally.

Clinical data demonstrates that AcrySof ReSTOR IOL greatly reduces dependence on glasses or bifocals:

  • 80% of patients reported that after lens implant surgery with ReSTOR lenses, they never needed glasses or contact lenses to see clearly at all distances.
  • 94% reported being able to drive or read the newspaper without glasses or contacts
  • Nearly 94% were so satisfied that they would have the procedure again.

In addition, the quality of vision compared to wearing bifocals and/or trifocals is significantly improved. You'll have a full range of vision, without having to tilt your head to find that portion of your glasses that allows you to see clearly.

Everyone's focusing ability is different. Most people will be able to see clearly in the distance, have very good reading vision and good middle vision without glasses, but some people may be more comfortable with additional correction, particularly at night or in dim light or for long periods of computer work.

It is important to remember that implant surgery cannot resolve preexisting visual conditions such as floaters, flashes, or visual field loss that are a result of conditions of the eye and not related to the lens. While virtually everyone experiences much improved vision after cataract surgery, some people will have better uncorrected vision than others.

It may be necessary for some people to wear glasses for distance, intermediate and/or near vision to obtain optimal visual acuity. The difference from standard lenses is that most people will not be dependent on these supplemental vision aids to function normally.

RESTOR IOL CANDIDATES

Virtually everyone who has cataracts and is in good general health may be candidate for implant surgery, but people with chronic infections, uncontrolled diabetes, or other health problems may have to wait until these conditions are under control prior to surgery.

People who have had prior corneal refractive surgery (i.e. LASIK or PRK) may be acceptable candidates for ReSTOR implantation as long as their eyes are in good health. After a thorough examination, we will be able to better advise you if you qualify for the ReSTOR implant.

If you've already had cataract surgery, you're not a candidate for the ReSTOR procedure.

“My first experience with Dr. Boothe was very important as far as me going forward with having my LASIK procedure performed at Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center.
“He made me feel very relaxed. He’s a very relaxed man and when you get the opportunity to meet him you’ll understand what I’m talking about. He answered all of my questions.
“Today I’m seeing as good as I’ve ever seen before. You know they called me ‘Hawkeye,’ as a kid it became my nickname because of my vision. As years went by, after turning 30-40 years of age, I started reading the newspaper and I wasn't the ‘Hawkeye’ of old. Now I am and that’s because of Dr. Boothe.”

A key component in quality vision care is technology. When you decide to undergo LASIK or IntraLASIK laser vision correction, you want to know that the equipment being used on your eyes is state-of-the-art. Dr. Boothe believes that much of a surgeon’s responsibility to his patients involves using the latest, most technologically advanced equipment available. To stay on the cutting edge of LASIK laser vision correction, Dr. William A. Boothe constantly evaluates emerging technologies that can offer the best treatment options for patients.

Among the latest technology in use daily at Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center is:

Wavefront Mapping and WaveFront Guided Customized IntraLASIK
Now it’s possible to capture, measure and treat both lower and higher-order visual errors with the new and advanced WaveFront Mapping technology. WaveFront Guided Customized IntraLASIK combines the precision and safety of the blade-free IntraLASIK procedure with the improved visual results of the WaveFront Guided treatment.

The LASIK procedure is considered elective surgery by most insurance companies and as such, is not covered by most medical plans. This means that you, the patient, are responsible for the costs associated with the procedure. Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center makes IntraLASIK affordable for any budget by offering a variety of options to assist you in paying for your LASIK procedure.

PRICING

Prices are determined according to each patient’s individual prescription and may vary. There is a cash price discount. The surgical fees include:

  • The pre-procedure examination (if the procedure is done within thirty days after the exam)
  • The laser procedure and initial standard medications.
  • Post-procedure care that includes eye care examinations for 24-months following the procedure.

When you compare the cost of refractive surgery to the projected cost of glasses and contact lenses you’ll use over a ten-year period, you’ll discover that refractive surgery is the more economical option.

In addition, we have several financing options that make it easier for you to afford the procedure that will make a difference in the way you see the world.
